Why am I paying $30.00 for another Skype number when I can't use it???

I’ve had an online Skype number for about four years. Recently, I gave that number to my boyfriend so he could use it for his satellite TV business (Sac Dish). Since I had a 50% off discount for a second Skype number, I figured what the hell… it comes in handy when you don’t want to give out your actual cell number for whatever reason.

However, here’s what I DID’T know until yesterday: any additional numbers on your Skype user account are utterly useless! Here’s why:

1. It is not possible to have different voicemails for your online numbers.

2. It is not possible to tell which number a call is coming in from.

3. It is not possible to set up separate call forwarding for each number.

Ummmmmm…. ummmmmmm…. … .. . so what you’re *saying* is that I paid $30.00 for the wrapper with no candy bar inside. Ah okay. Just PLEASE Skype people, make that disclaimer VERY clear BEFORE I spend my money, okay? I’d like to be able to make an informed decision. And who knows, maybe I’ll decide it’s a very *special* candy wrapper and decide it’s worth $30.00 anyway.

I can think of a lot of other uses I could have put that $30.00 to!!!

Here’s the actual email response from Skype Tech Support since someone out there has the same question and amazingly the answer is not easy to find (if it even exists) elsewhere:

Hello Angela,

Thank you for contacting Skype Support.

We are glad to hear that you are interested in using Skype.

1. Unfortunately it is not possible to have different voicemails for
your Online numbers as the Voicemail belongs to your account not your
numbers. It means that you can only have one Voicemail for one account,
no matter how many numbers you have.

2. It also means that you cannot tell that which number did the caller
dialed, you will only see that your someone called your account.
Therefore you cannot set up Call Forwarding separately, you can only set
it up to forward your calls to the preset number, no matter if someone
called one of your Online number or even if it’s only a Skype to Skype
call.
Please let us know if we can help you with anything else.

Best regards,

Lorand
